I am Mikayla Johnson. I am an Australian Christian author who enjoys writing high fantasy and loves stories with found family.
Some Creative Background
I grew up in a Christian family, and became a Christian myself at a very young age. God has given me a very vivid imagination and the ability to use it to tell stories. I have always enjoyed creating and sharing stories. The first story I recorded was called Rango the Cat, which was a children's picture book. It was before I learnt to write so Mum scribed for me and I drew the pictures. There was very little in the way of plot as Rango wandered about the rooms of his home then went to bed. I have thankfully come a long way since Rango. My first published book is Stories From Thear which contains two short stories from my fantasy world. I would not have been able to get this far if it was not for the guidance of God, and the support from my friends, family, and teachers.
The World of Thear
Thear is a planet where magic is everywhere. There are natural magics that, given the right conditions, can be learnt by anyone. There are also types of magic that are unique to certain species.
The species on Thear include Humans, Mermaids, Dwarves, Giants, Shapeshifters, Talking Animals, Fairies, and Elves. As well as others like Spacers who have teleporting magic, Avian who have large feathered wings, Truth Seekers who can magically tell fact from fiction, and Vanishers who are naturally invisible. Protectors are a species that once oversaw everything, but now are almost extinct.
Thear is still recovering from the 1000 Year War, a conflict which every species was involved in some capacity. About a thousand years have passed since the war's official end. For some species this means many generations have gone past and the war is a distant memory, for other species it feels still recent and raw. Due to the war's influence people mostly group with their own species. But this is beginning to change with younger generations who are beginning to mingle once more.
Most people live on the main continent. Giants on the west coast, Dwarves in the north-west, Humans in the mid-west, Truth Seekers in the central-southern strip, Elves in the north-east, Talking Animals in the mid-west, Fairies in the south-east, and Shapeshifters in the caverns under dragon country, which makes up most of the east coast. Outside of the main continent Avians live on islands to the south, Vanishers built castles on the large north-west island, Spacers settled in the far south on the vast planes of the minor continent, and Mermaids built cities in amongst the coral reefs. In the south-west of the main continent there is a country joint run by a council made up of all the species. It is known as the Education District and is where majority of the good schools and universities were built. It was set up after the war as an attempt to bring people together and to pool knowledge as a gesture of peace. There are also many residential areas and it has become the most popular place to move to.
